Field sketches are done from living, usually wild, creatures. As you might imagine, they're done quickly, and usually with the aid of a spotting scope or binoculars. Life sketches capture a creature's spirit, as well as the deep connection between it and the artist. Good life sketches convince the viewer that the artist was in the presence of a living, breathing animal. This quality cannot be faked, or manufactured from other references. That's why I love making them.
