Proud Parent of a Mental Athlete
Phoebe reads her Scary Story at Marietta's own WMOA Radio. She got to record it and hear herself read it on the air, the prize for having won the contest. It felt like my prize for being her mom.If you're going to be near a radio this afternoon, and you are able to receive National Public Radio's afternoon news show, "All Things Considered," you might want to give it a listen. It usually starts at 4 p.m. Eastern. One of my commentaries, about Phoebe winning a writing contest, has been put up for consideration. This means it might run this afternoon. We hope it will.

Not to be outdone, little Liam wings it with a story of his own, about a ghost train. This picture is a year old. Amazing how much Mr. Incredible has grown in that time.
I'll post the text of the commentary after it runs, for those who miss it on air.

Smart kids. must get it from you. BT3s a nice guy but....
Way to go, Phoebe!
And, for the tiny minority of Julie's readers who live in Massachusetts, don't miss her talking with Mark Lynch on Inquiry on WICN this Sunday night (11/12) at 9:00 PM. WICN archives their shows at the end of the month so if you don't catch it Sunday night you can get it from the archive in December.
Just heard your NPR commentary. Congratulations Phoebe! And congratulations Julie & Bill (such accomplishments are definitely as gratifying for the parents as for the offspring). And reflect on the parents in many other positive ways.
So saith The Swami.
Way to go, Phoebe! I missed the broadcast (again - drat NPR for always airing your mother's comments while I am at work) but my sister told me about it when she called this evening. Really proud of you, kiddo. And you are an athlete, too. Double-"wow" for being so well rounded.

Ric: I think Phoebe must have gotten her smarts from her dad - Julie still has all hers! (teasing)
